RF Coverage Mapping - Airmagnet Surveyor PDF Print E-mail

I've been playing around a bit with Airmagnet's Surveyor product while preparing for a wireless LAN workshop that I'm instructing this week for one of my clients. With Surveyor, you can import an image file of the area that you want to survey. When walking around the facility, you click your position on the map. This stores signal and noise data for each point. After collecting enough samples, Surveyor estimates the coverage area over the entire facility. This seems to work well for creating RF coverage maps. Just be sure to record plenty of locations where coverage may not be good due to obstacles getting in the way.

I use AirMagnet Survey a lot. Instead of only taking measurements when clicking you should configure Survey for so called "auto logging". In fact I believe it´s the default setting with one logging per second. Then you only need to mark your position when you change direction. It then "spreads out" all logging points over the distance you travelled between your clicks on the map/plan.
