The distinction guarantees interoperability among 11n products, adherence to security protocol and backward compatibility with previous generations of Wi-Fi gear, including popular 802.11g products. The D-Link Xtreme N Router (DIR-655) and Xtreme N Notebook Adapter (DWA-652) are the first D-Link products to receive Wi-Fi Alliance testing and subsequent certification. As a result, they will be labeled as Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 products and will bear a distinctive and prestigious logo, alerting consumers that the merchandise has passed the rigors of industry standards testing. "We commend D-Link for achieving Wi-Fi certification for the Xtreme N Router and Notebook Adapter," said Wi-Fi Alliance managing director Frank Hanzlik. "Having met the rigorous requirements for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 is quite an accomplishment, and reflects D-Link's commitment to interoperable, protected next-generation Wi-Fi technology." Delivering significantly faster speeds and further range over previous-generation Wi-Fi gear, products based on the new 802.11n draft 2.0 standard can do more than ever before, offering consumers whole-home coverage and enabling content-rich applications such as streaming high-definition video, online gaming with multiple users on a single network, and speedy file transfer of photos, music, and more. Small business users will be able to leverage 802.11n products to increase network capacity and improve robustness. D-Link has been gaining momentum with its 802.11n draft 2.0 offerings. The leading analyst firm In-Stat reports that D-Link draft 802.11n shipments have gained significant market share, displaying the strongest growth in the category with an increase of over 66% in unit shipments from Q4 2006 to Q1 2007. Also, D-Link recently announced another first in the market, offering 2.0 product upgrades for its draft 802.11n Xtreme N product line. The D-Link DIR-655 and DWA-652 are based on Atheros' XSPAN WLAN technology contained in the Wi-Fi Alliance 802.11n draft test suite that has also been Wi-Fi CERTIFIED for draft 802.11n. "We're proud to be first to receive Wi-Fi CERTIFICATION status and to associate with the Wi-Fi Alliance in offering products and technologies that deliver on the promise of convergence in the industry," said AJ Wang, chief technical officer of D-Link. "Introducing the next stage of this important technology with the 2.0 draft compliance, along with passing the Wi-Fi Alliance's rigorous certification process, validates the efforts that D-Link has invested in its products to meet the 802.11n specification in terms of reliability, security and interoperability."
