Navigating the site

There are three major menus for navigating Wi-Figurus.com: Main Menu runs vertically on the left side; Top Menu goes horizontally across the web page underneath the top banner and User Menu also on the left rail but only available to the registered users after they log-in. Each of these menus is described below.

Main Menu

The main menu provides access to all the content items on the site. Access to eLearning items is free but it is only available to the registered users after they login; all the other items have non-restricted access. Here is brief description of each of the menu items on the main menu.

Top Content

Lists Top Ten most viewed content items for all the time; Top Ten most viewed content items for last 30 days; Top Ten highest rated content items with their ratings in the parenthesis and a Tag Cloud

eLearning (Login reqd) 

Provides access (only available to registered users who're logged in) to the video based Wireless LAN Concepts elearning course developed by Jim Geier.  This is a great course for an introduction to wireless LANs. There are videos of Jim Geier discussing concepts of wireless LANs, including applications, benefits, issues, technologies, standards, components, and configurations. This eLearning course also includes several demonstrations on how to setup and configure a wireless LAN. 

Podcasts

Link to the pod cast section of the site.  

Quick Tips

Link to Quick Tips section of the site.  Quick tips are brief info articles that provide solutions to common Wi-Fi related issues.

Tutorials

Link to hundreds of professionally written tutorials. Each tutorial provides an in-depth and focussed information/knowledge about a topic.  

Latest News

Brief news concerning Wi-Fi industry happenings, new product releases, and market research related stories submitted by Wi-FiGurus staff and users. 

Columns

Articles written by Wi-FiGurus editors and Wi-Fi industry leaders. We welcome guest columnists so if you're interested in becoming a guest columnist then please contact us.

Glossary

A glossary of Wi-Fi / wireless LAN and other related terms.

Book Store

A selection of books picked by Wi-FiGurus staff and sold through Amazon.

Events

A calendar of Wi-Fi industry events.  Users can submit events for inclusion using "Submit Event" link on the user menu.

News Feed

Latest Wi-Fi news feed from Yahoo and Google news. 

Links

Hyper links to interesting Wi-Fi related blogs, organizations and research sites. 

Top Menu

Top Menu Provides access to the user registration page (Join Wi-FiGurus); About Us, RSS feed provided by feedburner; User Gallery page that show cases the most popular, online, latest and featured users on Wi-FiGurus.com; User Blogs page lists the latest blog entries published by registered users of Wi-FiGurus and Help menu provides a link to this help page.

User Menu (only available to registered and activated users after they login)

User Menu appears on the left hand rail after a registered user (who has activated his/her account) logs in. User menu provides access to user and community related features.  Here is the brief description of each of the items on this menu.

Welcome

Welcome message for all new users describing briefly the site features and the benefits.

Profile

Shows your profile page with your image (if uploaded to the site) and statistics associated with it.  It lists additional info about the user; articles and blogs (not available yet) submitted by the user and user's connections with other community members.  Moreover, a user can edit their profile details as well as image using the Edit tab on this page.

Search Users

Allows a user to search Wi-FiGurus community members by name.  Once you click on a user name it takes you to their profile page where you send them a private email message (‘Messages' tab à Send Email) or invite them to connect with you (‘Connections' tab à Request Connection) to build your network on Wi-FiGurus.  Also, you can report an offensive user - Moderation tab à Report User.

Submit Content

Allows a user to submit news, articles or events for publication on the site.  All the news/article submissions are currently moderated for appropriateness by Wi-FiGurus' staff members so only approved items would be posted to the site.  Please do not forget to save your work here.

Write a blog entry

Provides a simple form to the logged-in user to create and submit their blog entry. For more information on how to create and publish a blog entry click on 'How to Guide' on the user menu. 

Submit WebLink

Allows the logged-in user to submit a hyperlink for publication on the site's Links pages. This item is moderated by site's admin and it requires admin approval before the link gets published on the site.

Submit Event

Allows the logged-in user to submit an industry event for publication on the site's Event calender page. This item is moderated by site's admin and it requires admin approval before the link gets published on the site. 

Your Downloads

List the downloads available for the user.  Currently the Top 25 Wireless LAN Tutorials Pack written by Jim Geier is available for download to all the registered users of Wi-FiGurus.com

Invite a Friend

Allow a user to send out invitations to their friends and colleagues to join Wi-FiGurus.com. We;re currently running a referral reward program - click here for details

Show Your Blog

This page lists all the blog entries published by the logged-in user. 

How to guide

How to instructions for users to submit their content, submit events/weblinks, connect with other users, edit their profile, change their username and report a spammer. 

Logout

Logs the user out of Wi-FiGurus.com
