Extreme Networks to supply network infrastructure for 40 healthcare sites along with Specialist Integrator Scalable Networks SANTA CLARA, Calif.; July 19, 2007 – Extreme Networks, Inc., (Nasdaq: EXTR), is working with specialist integrator Scalable Networks, a leader in secure convergence, to assist Nuffield Hospitals, the United Kingdom's largest network of charitable, independent hospitals, to design and implement a high performance wired and wireless network infrastructure connecting 40 separate hospital sites. The full-featured network solution helps provide investment protection to Nuffield by delivering a network that is well fortified, with bandwidth, security and high availability features, to support both the traditional voice/video over IP technologies, as well as specialized healthcare applications that are essential, such as PACS/RIS, Wireless IPT and wireless medical diagnostics equipment. Based on an advanced network solution featuring meaningful insight and unprecedented control, Extreme Networks award-winning Summit® fixed switching platform will provide a robust and intelligent network foundation for Nuffield Hospitals. The project will involve the deployment of multiple gigabits of core switching capacity in each of the 40 sites. Power over Ethernet (POE) enabled switch connectivity will be provided to more than 10,000 wired users and connected devices, and 400 wireless LAN access points will be deployed for corporate and guest use. For ease-of-use, the wireless LAN will be centrally authenticated and proactively managed. Nuffield Hospitals engaged Scalable Networks through a tender process. Nuffield's prior network infrastructure utilized Cisco solutions which are being replaced as part of the deployment of the new LAN infrastructure. By offering a scalable solution based on Extreme Networks wired and wireless LAN platforms at a favourable cost and which allows for lower operational expenses, the deployment of all 40 sites is expected to be completed over a two month period. The new solution can enable Nuffield Hospitals to provide real-time monitoring of patients, allowing records to be automatically updated at the bedside and enabling access to X-rays and scans to be stored electronically and viewed on screens, so that health professionals can access the information and compare it with previous images at the touch of a button. "Nuffield Hospitals is a leader in adapting and working innovatively in a rapidly transforming healthcare market," said Iain Roy General Manager IT Service Management at Nuffield Hospitals. "We now gain a network solutions set with the performance, availability and security that we needed to improve our current services through innovation, effectiveness and efficiency." Nuffield's three pilot sites have already been deployed with the minimum disruption to the hospital's services. Simplified management available with Extreme Networks® unique modular network operating system, ExtremeXOS™, can reduce the time to implement day-to-day tasks and contributes to staff efficiency. "Our wide-ranging project with Nuffield Hospitals further signifies our commitment to providing very advanced and flexible infrastructure solutions to hospitals," said Paul Hooper, chief marketing officer for Extreme Networks, Inc. "This can contribute to the bottom-line results of healthcare organizations that require value, reliability and performance." About Nuffield Hospitals Extreme Networks, Inc.
