Despite several large cities, such as Chicago and San Francisco, holding back indefinitely on deploying city-wide Wi-Fi networks, the City of Los Angeles is still considering a city-wide network. I recently completed a RF survey throughout the City for this project. Take a look at a related L.A. Times article that gives you a good update on the progress the City is making toward deploying a city-wide Wi-Fi network.

Not Clear Why

It remains a puzzle why local governments (cities, towns....) would want to supply Wi-Fi to the public. Wi-Fi for their own mobile workers, while expensive, could make business sense but for public consumption????
