Try a simple 128 bit WEP key

The police are correct - by simply adding 128 bit WEP, the problem would virtually disappear. The average war driver doesn't have the brains of a fire hydrant - about the same intelligence as the wannabe Wi-Fi gurus who claim that WEP is not secure. While WEP may not be suitable for securing access to highly sensitive information, it is perfectly suitable in a residential application as it deters a very large percentage of war drivers looking for free Internet access.
